Nina Ying Sun | PLASTICS NEWS CHINA

Houston-based LyondellBasell Industries NV has broken ground on its third factory in China, which will focus on customers in the northern part of the country.

The project will draw a total of 300 million yuan of investment in two phases, according to a statement from the Dalian government. The first phase will build a production hall and a warehouse and install two polypropylene compounding lines, targeting automotive bumper and interior trim applications.

The factory is being constructed on a parcel of land that measures 43,000 square meters. Construction on the first phase is scheduled to be complete by the first quarter of 2017 and it will launch production in the third quarter of that year.

Senior Vice President Jean Gadbois said at the ground-breaking ceremony that the new plant will be closer to customers in North China and spur further growth in China and Asia, according to the statement.

LyondellBasell currently operates two compounding facilities in China, one in Guangzhou and the other in Suzhou.
